Manor Parc Country Hotel Wedding Photography – A Venue in Thornhill, Cardiff

The bride and groom enter the Orangerie for their wedding breakfast. The room is large with lots of space for me to photograph a nice sequence of shots.
The Manor Parc Country Hotel and Restaurant is a family-run hotel that opened in 1984.
With its roots in Victorian Wales, the hotel was built in 1850 as a manor house for a family of potato merchants from Cardiff. Today it presents as one of Cardiff’s top and well-loved hotel and restaurants, perfect for hosting small to medium-sized wedding day celebrations.

The management and staff at the Manor Parc Hotel are very professional and attentive – it’s silver service all the way. Here the Manager serves the main course to wedding guests.
Nestled at the foot of Caerphilly Mountain, the Manor Parc Hotel is just 5 miles (8.05 km) from the centre of Cardiff in the leafy suburb of Thornhill.
Despite the proximity to Wales’s capital city, the hotel is still very much in the heart of the countryside.
The location close to the city centre and it’s transport connections means it is an excellent choice for the wedding ceremony and reception.
Alternatively, it would be easy to have your marriage at one of Cardiff’s many wedding venues such as City Hall and then move on to the Manor Parc for your reception and evening celebrations.
Either way, a professional and attentive staff team guarantees you a fantastic day.

The groom chats to his best man in the small bar just off the Orangerie: It is small, and there is no natural light, but the neutral decor enables the photographer to use some bounce flash easily.
Manor Parc Hotel Wedding Photography Venue
I have photographed at the Manor Parc just once for the reception of a wedding held at Castell Coch nearby. I found the venue to be very friendly and accommodating. Best of all, they work with the wedding photographer to ensure that the happy couple have a great photographic document of their special day.
The hotel is perfect for you and your guests to stay over to save the drive or taxi home.
If you are having your civil wedding ceremony at the Manor Parc Hotel, the Cardiff registrars are photography friendly and have no restrictions. They only respectfully ask that the register signing is not photographed. Instead, they set up a ‘dummy’ register for posed photographs afterwards.
The venue caters for gay/LGBTQ weddings as well as civil partnerships and non-religious civil wedding ceremonies.

A playful shot of the Father of the Bride during the speeches: He’s poking fun at the Best Man, the groom’s childhood friend.

Two wedding guests receiving a present from the couple. I love to photograph natural moments such as this and am always on the lookout for them throughout the day.
Manor Parc Hotel Rooms
There are 3 gorgeous rooms to choose from for your Manor Parc Hotel wedding photography. Here are my highlights of what makes them unique:

The Orangerie Restaurant can seat up to 80. Here it is set for Julie and Tony’s wedding reception. Note the large dome in the centre which gives excellent light for photography.
The Cedar Room:
Named after two cedar trees that this room overlooks, The Cedar Room is as light and bright as elegant. The room is decorated in white and pale grey – perfect for your wedding photography. Comfortably seating 110 guests or 160 for a later buffet, this would make a fantastic venue for your wedding reception. During the summer, the room opens out onto a terrace facing beautifully landscaped gardens.
The Orangerie:
This exceptionally light and airy room is considered the main restaurant room at Manor Parc, probably due to the large orange dome in the centre which lets in natural light during the day. Seating 80 for the wedding breakfast and catering for 110 for the evening buffet, the Orangerie isn’t quite as large as the Cedar Room. Usually open for fine dining and afternoon tea, the restaurant is available to book for wedding days and private functions.
The Oak Room:
With space for just 16 seated guests, the Oak Room is suitable for small wedding parties. However, it is no less impressive the Manor Parc’s larger rooms. With oak panelling and a period fireplace, this room gives a sense of what it must have been like to dine at the venue at the time of its Victorian origins.

Manor Parc has lots of space to enable me to move around and capture some great photography. This photo worked better in black and white than colour, but I provide the couple with a mixture.

Manor Parc Hotel Wedding FAQs
Q. WHY GET MARRIED AT THE MANOR PARC HOTEL?
A. The Manor Parc Hotel is a lovely venue nestled in the Welsh Countryside just north of Cardiff. The venue provides the full wedding package from preparations through until the first dance and beyond. The staff and management are friendly, attentive and determined to give you the best wedding day experience.
Q. IS PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED OF OUR WEDDING CEREMONY AND VOWS?
A. Your ceremony is conducted by the registrars at Cardiff Register Office. They are keen that you end up with an excellent photographic document of your vows and exchange of rings, allowing the photographer to move around at will to take the best shots. The only restriction they have is that the register signing not be photographed. They do set up a blank ‘dummy’ register for posed portraits afterwards.
Q. IS CONFETTI ALLOWED AFTERWARDS FOR A SEQUENCE OF PHOTOS?
A. Yes, confetti is allowed to be thrown outside the hotel as the couple exit the building. I like to take time to set up an aisle of guests for the newly-weds to walk through in a shower of confetti. For environmental reasons, biodegradable confetti is best.
Q. WHAT IS THE LIGHT LIKE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY INSIDE THE VENUE?
A. Generally the light is pretty good in the function rooms. Later in the day or in areas where the light is poor, your pro-photographer should have no problem in coping. Modern cameras deal with dull lighting exceptionally well.
