Wedding Photography at Lambeth Town Hall & Register Office
**I’m taking bookings for weddings at this venue for 2026-27 now!**

A memorable wedding moment as Jess and Rhys find humour in their wedding ceremony (as did the registrar). Lambeth Town Hall’s Circular Hall was the perfect backdrop for their day, and I photographed every special moment.
A Grade II Listed Wedding Venue in the Heart of Brixton
The Lambeth Register Office is located within Lambeth Town Hall on Brixton Hill, opposite The Ritzy on the junction of Coldharbour Lane and Brixton Road. Grade II listed and recently refurbished, it is a lovely venue for your wedding and a boon for wedding photographers.
With rooms suitable for the smallest weddings to the Assembly Hall, which seats 300, Lambeth Town Hall has the perfect wedding space for anyone wanting to marry in South London.

The courtyard is where your guests meet and is the perfect setting for those scene-setting greeting shots. I often start the photography here.

This photo shows Lambeth’s Circular Hall. It isn’t a room, but the meeting point of three staircases, and there’s plenty of room for your photographer to move around. I took it from the main staircase as the bride and her father walked past me.

This opposing perspective shows the grooms, Michael and Archie, descending the steps to their ceremony.

With three large windows and Brixton outside as the backdrop, there is scope for some lovely photography that encapsulates the spirit of the wedding day. I photograph the ceremony to make the most of these striking features.
The Lambeth Town Hall Registrars & Photography
The registrars and staff at Lambeth are always busy with weddings, particularly in the summer months. The town hall has 9 wedding spaces available, so everything must run on time and according to schedule. And it does – like clockwork…
The registrars are friendly and approachable, which is a great help for the photographer. They are accommodating throughout the couple’s short time marriage ceremony, treating every wedding with the care it deserves.

Sometimes, the couple prepare words to read to each other to help make the day even more personal. This image of the groom’s personal message to his bride is from her perspective and includes his proud mum and dad watching.

Including readings during your ceremony, whether a message to each other or from guests, provides another memory and gives your photographer more to capture.
Useful to Know When Booking Your Wedding at Lambeth Register Office:
- You can check availability and book through the Lambeth Council website or email love@lambeth.gov.uk.
- You are allowed 15 minutes before the ceremony to set up in the venue room. I use this time to photograph the guests as they arrive.
- Saturdays can be busy with a high turnover of weddings, so there may be less time for portraits outside. The Brixton area provides lots of other photo opportunities, though.
- Lambeth Town Hall also performs marriages, Renewals of Vows, Civil Ceremonies, and Naming Ceremonies, all of which I can photograph.
Lambeth Town Hall Wedding Photography Rooms

Some rooms are ideal for wide-angle photography. In this one, I have captured everyone present for the ceremony.
The Mayor’s Heritage Suites: This suite consists of three interconnected rooms, which can be hired as one or individually. It can seat 51-100 wedding guests.
The Circular Hall: Located under the clock tower at the corner of the building, this is arguably the most stunning venue at Lambeth Town Hall for your intimate wedding ceremony. It has seating for 11-25 guests and is perfectly photogenic. The wedding photos I’ve included on this page were shot here.
The Council Chamber: This room has a traditional horseshoe shape, allowing guests a good view wherever they sit. It has space for 100 in the central part of the room, with a further 60 on the balcony if required.
The Assembly Hall: With high windows and wood panelling, this is Lambeth Town Hall’s largest wedding venue. It seats 100-300 guests comfortably, and its light nature makes it perfect for your wedding photography.
The Olive Morris Suite: This mid-sized room seats 40 and is light and airy.
Suite 16: Can accommodate 100 wedding guests. Its separate kitchen area is perfect for your ceremony and reception.
The Pauline Room: Intimate and floral. It accommodates up to 20 guests and features a floral wall for portrait photography.
The Ante Chamber: With a capacity for 11-25 guests, this room is long and narrow – like a wide corridor! It has good, natural light and is perfect for wedding photography.
The David Bowie Room: Available Monday to Thursday only. This ground-floor, pale green room is the smallest at Lambeth and seats up to 10 guests. There is limited room for your photographer to move around.

I love this photo: As the bride’s sister presents a box containing the rings, both her and her groom’s expressions tell different stories.

I took a sequence of photos of the couple exchanging wedding rings. The intense eye contact makes this photo stand out, so remember to ‘be’ with each other and enjoy every precious moment.

This passionate photo worked well in black-and-white. I use black-and-white sparingly, and only when it adds something to the image.
Signing the Lambeth Marriage Schedule
Significant changes came in May 2021 when the wedding register moved online. Signing a marriage schedule has now replaced the traditional register. The marriage certificate presentation, too, has been consigned to history, as it is now posted to couples after the day. I have mixed feelings about these changes, as it was a symbolic moment of the wedding day to photograph.
The Lambeth Town Hall registrars were always relaxed about photographing the register signing, so little has changed in that respect.

I took this of Jess signing the schedule. The registrars at Lambeth Register Office are very relaxed about having the signing photographed.

A nice photo to take is of you with your witnesses. The registrars at Lambeth Town Hall allow a few minutes for posed photo arrangements after the signing.

I love it when couples show their evident excitement about becoming husband and wife. It always makes for some fun photography!
Lambeth Register Office Congratulations & Drinks
Straight after the ceremony, I take time to photograph family and friends, congratulating the newlyweds. This is a lovely part of the day, and the photos can really paint a portrait of family relationships and the love between friends. My advice is to take your time with this.
This can also be combined with a drinks reception. In the Circular Hall, this takes place in the area at the top of the middle steps. You and your guests have around 30 minutes to drink, toast and otherwise celebrate your nuptials.

I take time to photograph the congratulations after the ceremony. These can be some of the most natural photos of the day.

The Circular Hall drinks reception is held in the area in front of the stained glass, making a beautiful backdrop for your celebration – despite any spilt Champagne!

I had to arrange the near guests so they didn’t obscure anyone else, but ended up with a lovely wedding toast moment.

My naturally discreet approach to shooting means I can capture fun moments you wouldn’t even know I was there for. Many couples are surprised by what I have included in their wedding photos.

As the bride’s mum takes the opportunity to snap a selfie with the newlyweds, I seize the chance to capture another memorable photograph from their wedding.
Posed Group & Couples Photos
When couples book me as their Lambeth Town Hall wedding photographer, I supply a short questionnaire with a section for any posed shots they need. This makes things run efficiently when I photograph the posed wedding portraits.
Where I take the posed photos depends very much on which room you have for your wedding. Some rooms are fine for these set-ups, while others (particularly the smaller venue rooms) may require relocation.
There’s also the outside. A wander round the side of the building, and there’s the old front door on the corner, which is well worth the trip for some lovely portraits.

The steps in the Circular Hall are perfect for arranging a group shot of the whole wedding party, which is often the most crucial group shot to capture.

I asked everyone to strike a pose, and they came up with one that perfectly showcases the family’s personalities.

The corner facade of Lambeth Town Hall is an often-overlooked location for some group photos.

This was the last photo I took on the day. The corner shot outside the front is great to do when leaving after your ceremony.
Lambeth Town Hall FAQs
Q. WHY GET MARRIED AT LAMBETH TOWN HALL?
A. The Grade II early 20th century has an elegance to add style and sophistication to any wedding day. With 9 wedding venues to choose from, from the very small to rooms catering for 300, there is a space for everyone
The registrars are experienced, helpful, and keen to help you have the best time on your wedding day.
Q. IS PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED OF OUR WEDDING CEREMONY AND VOWS?
A. Yes. This venue welcomes photographers with no restrictions. Photography is allowed in all rooms, and your photographer may move around as needed to capture all key moments.
Q. IS CONFETTI ALLOWED AFTERWARDS FOR A NICE SEQUENCE OF PHOTOS?
A. Unfortunately, confetti is not allowed anywhere in the venue. Bubbles are permitted and are on sale at the reception.
Q. WHAT IS THE LIGHT LIKE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY INSIDE THE VENUE?
A. It depends mainly on which room you are in. Most of the rooms have large windows to allow for natural wedding photos. I use some bounced flash to enhance the light where needed.

Smaller group shots work well, too. If the couple books a drinks reception, the venue will be set up at the back table.

I love shots like this when I caught the groom and a friend having a quick cuddle. I was quick to point my camera in their direction…
Wedding Confetti Rules & Departure
The Lambeth Town Hall website states that no confetti may be thrown at all on the premises. However, the last time I photographed a wedding there, I was allowed. So with these conflicting examples in mind, if confetti is important to you, speak with the registrars about it. If not paper confetti, then bubble confetti is popular, and they definitely allow it at Lambeth.

I’m not sure if this shot was allowed, or if we were doing something naughty, but it made for a great photo anyway.
