Wedding Photography at Pencoed House Estate: a Venue Near Cardiff, South Wales
Pencoed House Estate lies in 36 acres of the stunning Welsh countryside in the picturesque village of Capel Llanilltern. Just 7 miles (11.27 km) from Cardiff, the venue is both beautiful and convenient but with a feeling of remoteness and will make a fantastic addition to your wedding day.
Your Pencoed House Estate wedding photography revolves around The Old Hall which dates as far back as the 15th Century and still has its original stone walls. With a vaulted ceiling and, for winter weddings, a roaring log fire, the Old Hall holds up to 120 seated guests for your ceremony and 200 evening guests.
Next to The Old Hall is The Woodland Bar with its wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. It even contains a whisky library for connoisseurs of Single Malts.
Pencoed House Estate as Your Wedding Venue
Did a Fantastic Job…
Guy Milnes was the photographer at our wedding at Pencoed House in Cardiff. He did a fantastic job and we couldn’t have asked for a better photographer. The pictures were stunning – Guy has a really good eye for capturing our friends and family having a good time as well as those other special moments of our wedding day. He worked in the background, observing and waiting for the right shots, but also gently steered us and everybody else in the right direction when it was necessary. Our band started late in the evening, but Guy stayed longer than agreed to capture us partying, which we really appreciated. We would like to recommend him in the best possible terms.

Wedding Catering at Pencoed House
The venue insists that you use one of it's three recommended caterers which you may find restrictive, but they are top-notch, offering a diverse selection of food and tastings. Having tasted the food on offer, I can personally vouch for the quality.
For those wanting to extend the event over a weekend, the venue offers a Bridal Suite, a self-catering cottage (sleeps 8) and 2 barn apartments, sleeping 2 in each. Hiring the Bridal Suite provides the perfect location for your wedding preparations.
Wedding Photography at Pencoed House Estate
There are no restrictions regarding wedding photography except that public liability insurance is required. The venue is happy for your photographer to look round the venue with you before the day, as long as they make an appointment.
Cardiff Registrar Photography Restrictions
As far as photographing the ceremony is concerned, any restrictions are at the Cardiff Registrars' discretion who are conducting your ceremony. The registrars at Cardiff are thankfully very relaxed about photographers but are strict about photographing the signing. They prefer to set up a 'dummy' register for a staged signing afterwards if you would like this. I prefer to shoot the actual signing as it is much more natural. However, we must abide by any rules the officiants' set out.

Your Wedding Outside The Old Barn
The expansive grounds offer many backdrops. These include statues, a bridge, plenty of greenery, attractive arched doorways and even a cannon. It's well worth taking time away from your guests to have a mini-portrait shoot. I think this is important. You'll end up with some gorgeous wedding portraits, and it will give you some time alone before the evening celebrations. I then always suggest that you take a few minutes out to be together and compose yourselves in readiness for the festivities ahead.
Post-Ceremony Canapés and Games on the Lawn
The outside space and tables mean that you can have your wedding reception drinks and canapés on the lawn, making for some fantastic reportage photography.
The wedding venue also includes a children's play area and lawn games to keep younger guests entertained in nice weather. There is plenty of space for them to run around and fire up their active imaginations as they play in the most beautiful surroundings. It's a real boon for a photographer, as if there's a lull in your wedding day proceedings, kids are always great to photograph.
Gay/LGBT weddings are welcome at Pencoed House Estate as it's a secular venue for civil marriage. A good proportion of my weddings are same-sex, so please contact me to discuss.
