Pencoed House Estate Wedding Photographer

A Venue with 36 Acres of Stunning Countryside

Wedding Photography at Pencoed House Estate: a Venue Near Cardiff, South Wales

Wedding in the Old Barn, Pencoed House

Weddings in Pencoed House’s Old Barn have a special rustic feel.

Pencoed House Estate lies in 36 acres of stunning Welsh countryside in the picturesque  village of Capel Llanilltern.  Just 7 miles from Cardiff, the venue is both beautiful and convenient but with a feeling of remoteness and will make a fantastic addition to your wedding day.

Your Pencoed House Estate wedding photography will revolve around The Old Hall.  Dating as far back as the 15th Century, the hall still has it’s original stone walls.  With a vaulted ceiling and, for winter weddings, a roaring log fire, the Old Hall can hold up to 120 seated guests for your ceremony and 200 evening guests.

Next to The Old Hall is The Woodland Bar with it’s wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.  It even contains a whisky library for connoisseurs of Single Malts.

The wedding venue also includes a children’s play area and lawn games to keep younger guests entertained in nice weather.  There is plenty of space for them to run around and fire up their active imaginations as they play in the most beautiful of surroundings.  This is a real boon for a photographer, as if there’s a lull in your wedding day proceedings, kids are always great to photograph.

The Bride and Groom with the register in the Old Barn

The Old Barn is quite spacious and gives the photographer room to comfortably moved around to get shots from many different angles.

The venue insists that you use one of it’s 3 recommended caterers which you may find restrictive but they are really top notch, offering a diverse selection of food and tastings.  Having tasted the food on offer, I can personally vouch for the quality.

Little Boy Handing Ring to Groom at Pencoed House Wedding

At Pencoed House Estate, your wedding ceremony may be as bespoke as you’d like it to be. The Cardiff Registrars are very accommodating with this. Here a page boy delivers the rings to the happy couple before the exchange. Note the Transformer he is clutching.

For those wanting to extend the event over a weekend, the venue offers a Bridal Suite, a self-catering cottage (sleeps 8) and 2 barn apartments, sleeping 2 in each.  Hiring the Bridal Suite would provide a perfect location for your preparations.

There are no restrictions regarding wedding photography except that public liability insurance is required. The venue is happy for your photographer to look round the venue with you prior to the day, as long as an appointment is made.

Pencoed House Wedding - Walking Back Down Aisle with Little Boy

The Old Barn is not too wide meaning that your guests will be well in the photo frame as the photographer shoots the couple leaving the ceremony.

As far as photographing the ceremony is concerned, any restrictions are at the discretion of the Cardiff Registrars who are conducting your ceremony.  The registrars at Cardiff are thankfully very relaxed about photographers, but are strict about photographing the signing.  They prefer to set up a ‘dummy’ register for a staged signing afterwards if you would like this.  Personally I prefer to shoot the actual signing as it is much more natural.  However, we must abide by any rules the officiants’ set out.

Your Wedding Outside The Old Barn

Confetti Throwing as Couple Leave the Old Barn

There is a lot of room outside the Old Barn for your photographer to arrange guests into a confetti throwing aisle.

The expansive grounds offer many different backdrops. These include statues, a bridge, plenty of greenery, attractive arched doorways and even a cannon.  It’s well worth you taking time away from your guests to have a mini-portrait shoot.  I think this is important.  You’ll end up with some gorgeous wedding portraits and it will give you some time alone before the evening celebrations.  I always suggest to my couples that after their portraits, they take a few minutes out to be together and compose themselves in readiness for the festivities ahead.  They most often agree…

There are countless backdrops for your wedding portraits. This doorway was too good not to make use of.

The outside space and tables mean that you can have your wedding reception drinks and canapés on the lawn.  This again makes for some fantastic reportage photography.

Gay/LGBT weddings are welcome at Pencoed House Estate as it’s a non-secular venue for civil marriage.  A good proportion of my weddings are same-sex, so please contact me to discuss.
